iFamous First Light a standalone DLC which serves as a prequel to inFamous Second Son. Instead of focusing on Delsin Rowe, this game focuses on the character of Abigail "Fetch" Walker.
inFamous First Light is a mini game of its own as you don't need to own inFamous Second Son in order to play it. It's available right now for just $23.95 on the PlayStation Store and will come out on Blu-ray disc for $34.95 in select New Zealand retailers from September 10th.
The game starts off with Fetch in Seattle as she arrives there with her brother Brent. Her time in Seattle is from two years ago as she's currently in Curdun City training to be an assassin. Seattle itself is a huge playground you can explore much like in inFamous Second Son. You can just literally run around and explore the city at your own will. What's even cooler is the added Photo Mode so you can take pictures of the picturesque city landscape.
If you never played inFamous Second Son, inFamous First Light is a great introduction to the style of gameplay. Fetch has some pretty cool powers as she has abilities that many of the X-Men characters have. Not only can she run really fast, but she can shoot out neon fireballs, jump really high and also recover her wounds. She may not have as many powers as Delsin, but it's still pretty cool to play as someone who has superpowers.
For a standalone DLC, inFamous First Light is pretty generous and offers a lot of bang for your buck. The main campaign of the game is around four to five hours long. This is longer than most DLC being offered from other games. Not only that, but there are tons of side missions you can tackle around the city too. There are races, graffiti art and other missions. A decent offering for its price.
Outside of Seattle, you can also participate in the many challenge maps too. The challenge maps allow you to kill as many enemies as you can and compare your scores to players online. The challenge maps are a great alternative if you've already finished the main campaign. They can be quite fun, although might seem repetitive for some players.
Graphically, inFamous First Light is just as beautiful as inFamous Second Son. It's safe to say that the game is the best looking open world game on home consoles right now. Watch Dogs looks decent on PS4, but this game looks superior in comparison. The game truly is one of the best you'll ever see for the PS4. The graphics are just gorgeous to look at especially if you're playing on a decent HDTV.
If you loved inFamous Second Son earlier this year, you'll be mad not to pick up inFamous First Light. It is arguably one of the best DLC offerings in recent memory as it packs lots of content at such an affordable price. Not to mention you don't even have to own inFamous Second Son to play it. It might not offer a long experience, but it's decent for the price you're paying for it.
Verdict: 8.5 10
